Sutton Schools’ Netball Tournament
On Saturday 11th March the Year 7 and 8 Netball Teams took part in the annual Sutton Schools’ End of Season Tournament. The event was held at St Philomena’s with seven schools from the borough taking part in each age group. The other schools taking part were Wallington High School for Girls, Nonsuch, Overton, Stanley Park, Carshalton Girls and St Philomena’s. Our girls were very excited about the tournament and had been training hard. We arrived early on a sunny Saturday morning and the teams began warming up in preparation for their first games.
The Cheam girls had an amazing tournament. The first game was won 8-0 against Carshalton Girls, followed by another high winning score of 9-0 against Overton. The third game against Nonsuch was tough. The girls worked really hard and the defence were really strong, ensuring they stayed with the opposition and jumped for any missed goals. Ellie, Lola and Daisy worked together to bring the ball back up the court, but the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The girls then finished with a winning streak of 8-0 against Stanley Park, 9-1 against St Phils and 3-1 against Wallington Girls.
By the end of the tournament the girls were exhausted, they gave 100% in each game and fought for every ball. All the girls encouraged and supported each other throughout, meaning they only had three goals scored against them. In the end Cheam and Nonsuch drew on points, so it meant it came down to goals scored. Cheam had scored 39 goals and Nonsuch 42, which meant we came second in the tournament.
This was a huge achievement for the girls and they should all be really proud of themselves.
