U12 Girls' Football v St Philomena's
On Tuesday 9th May, on a beautiful afternoon, Cheam took glory at St Phil’s! Ellie Sturton got off to a flying start with a great cross to Holly Bahiti who scored a lovely goal after three minutes. Molly Baker did a great job sweeping up and creating chances for Mollie Corrigan and Ellie and constantly looked dangerous. Cheam’s strong defenders and midfielders Lola Proctor, Louisa Wright, Jessica Shrimpton, Eshal Tariq and Kacey Millen led the way and ensured St Phil’s did not get into Cheam’s half. Another great assist by Ellie found Roxie Fowler’s left foot and with a flick into the top corner it was 2-0.
The second half saw Jasmine Durham make her debut as a striker with a couple more changes to ensure the girls all got their fair share of the last game of the season. Cheam started sluggishly and St Phil’s got a lucky break, Brooke Harding scrambled to save the goal but unfortunately they scored (2-1).
However, Cheam fought back within minutes. Jasmine showed confidence and scored from a great cross from Ellie for her first goal! (3-1). Our fourth goal came from Ellie who drove the ball up the field single-handedly, struck and pounded it into the back of the net. A repeat goal came from Roxie, again striking the ball with her amazing left foot (5-1). By now St Phil’s were feeling the pressure and never got back in the game. Holly came back on after a short interlude and was hungry to score again, which she did! The final whistle blew with the score at 6-1 - a great result and a great team effort.
Players of the Match: Holly Bahiti for two great goals and Jasmine Durham for her debut goal.
