Spanish Students Visit Madrid
Seventeen Spanish students from Years 8-12 visited Madrid from 19th-22nd October. We flew out on Thursday afternoon and on Friday morning took a walking tour of the city. We took in sights such as the Palace and Parliament and learnt about Spanish historical figures such as Cervantes. In the afternoon we visited the Reina Sofía and saw Picasso’s famous painting ‘Guernica’ and also an exhibition of photos from the Spanish Civil War. Finally we went to the Temple of Debod and watched the sunset over the city.
On Saturday we enjoyed an excursion to the historic city of Toledo, visiting Jewish, Christian and Islamic places of worship. On Sunday we were able to visit the home of the 12 time European Champions Real Madrid and saw the Bernabeu stadium, before paying a final visit to the centre and Retiro Park before returning home.
All the students spoke lots of excellent Spanish and enjoyed their time visiting such a varied and colourful city!
