Year 9 - Red Year
The red year group have made a fantastic start to the year so far!
Students have settled well into their new GCSE options subjects and are working really hard to achieve the best grades possible.
Year 9 have also received a large number of IRIS rewards; currently the highest year group in the school!
Year 9 information evening took place on Monday 3rd October.
Parents/carers attended this evening and received feedback from tutors on how students have started back in Year 9.
Parents/carers were also provided with information on the new GCSE assessment criterion and introduced to the new rewards schemes running for the year group.
The first set of Year 9 reports are due in mid November.
They will contain information on attainment, effort, behaviour and homework, and this information will turn provide an indication of how well students are progressing towards their targets in each subject area.
Year 9 Parents' Evening will be held on 26th January 2017.
Parents/carers will be able to speak to teachers from each subject area and see how students are progressing in their GCSE option choices.
Year 9 Leadership Scheme
After the phenomenal success of the Year 8 Leadership Scheme, the scheme is back – bigger and better – for Year 9! Students will continue to take on extra responsibilities both inside and outside school. Additional leadership opportunities on offer this year include; Duke of Edinburgh, Open Evening Tour Guides and the Sutton Supremo’s sports leadership course. As students accumulate leadership points they will be working towards achieving Bronze, Silver, Gold and a newly added platinum award. The scheme will continue to reward leaders with events each half term and culminate in a residential trip (subject to governors approval!)
New to Year 9 this year is the Phoenix challenge. Tutor groups need to work together over the year to complete a range of challenges. Completing all challenges will gain them 1000 points towards the Year Group intertutor competition and move them one step closer to winning the coveted Thorpe Park trip at the end of the year.
The new IRIS behaviour system allows the Year 9 team to see just how well the students are doing each week. The tutor group with the most reward slips each day is awarded tutor points and the student with the most rewards slips each week is given a prize during tutor time. In addition, the student with the most reward slips in the year group each week is awarded 100 tutor point, a prize and a leadership point.
