Awards and Achievements
We were delighted to be judged as "outstandingly effective" in our last Ofsted inspection. Please see the report for more details here
In February 2003 we succeeded with our bid to become a Specialist School and were granted Language College status from September 2003. The school was re-designated with this status in September 2007 for a further three years. We continue to be a beacon of excellence in this area, offering German, Spanish and French at both GCSE and A Level with outstanding results.
This specialism recognises our extensive applied learning curriculum and the expertise we have developed in related courses. This complements and supports our wide choice of traditional courses and provides an outstanding curriculum for our students. The school continues to maintain its commitment to this form of education.
National Tennis Championships
Cheam High School's boys' and girls' tennis teams have both won the British Schools National Tennis Championships in various years. These include:
Boys' Team: 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004
Girls' Team: 1995, 2007, 2008
The winning boys' team is presented with the Glanvill Cup, which dates back to 1945 and the winning girls' team with the Aberdare Cup.
Cheam High remains the only state school to hold both of these cups. Tennis teams have been successful in qualifying for the finals' week of these prestigious tournaments each year.
The Arts Council's National Award for the Arts in Schools
This prestigious award is an acknowledgement by The Arts Council of the high level of provision for the Performing and Visual Arts at Cheam High. The school was redesignated with Artsmark Gold in 2014. The award demonstrates a commitment to providing opportunities across all art forms from drama to music, design to literature and dance to sculpture.
The Artsmark Award also highlights the school's work in partnership with the community and with professional arts organisations.
