Welcome to the Sixth Form
The Sixth Form was graded as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in 2015.
At Cheam High School Sixth Form we are very proud of all of our students. We are in the enviable position of seeing them grow, mature and develop which is incredibly satisfying. The experience we provide for all students enables them to achieve very well, both academically and personally. The Sixth Form Management Team consists of 9 members of staff together with the 30+ tutors work incredibly hard to support all students, academically and pastorally, to achieve their goals.
Our curriculum is vast with 27 A level courses and 12 Vocational courses on offer. Students are able to choose a combination of these courses or just A levels or Vocational. Our teaching and learning is of the highest standard and is regularly monitored to ensure students receive the best education and opportunities.
All students have a range of enrichment opportunities to build up their extra-curricular experiences which helps when applying for university or a job or apprenticeship. The support we provide for every student in the progression route they decide is second to none. Students can be a prefect, mentor students, contribute to the school and local community and gain work experience or undertake work shadowing.
Tutor time and assemblies are compulsory and are a vital part of the week. Praise is widespread across the sixth form and in many forms. Sixth form events are regular to enable students to have fun and relax away from the demands of their studies as well as earn community cup points for their tutor group and raise money for the Sixth Form charity. Events include challenge weeks, tutor & tutee Masterchef, decoration making and tombola’s.
Post 16 exam results for 2018 were very strong again, following a very successful year in 2017. Highlights include:
- 26% of entries graded at the highest possible i.e. A* or Distinction*
- 40% of entries graded at the top grades i.e. A or A*; Distinction or Distinction*
- 62% of entries graded at B grade or higher (A level) or Merit or higher (vocational)
- Pass rates exceeding national averages at A level and vocational level 3
There were many excellent individual performances including:
- 8 students with 3 A and AX grades and 21 students with at least 2 A or AX grades
- 11 students achieved 3 Distinction* grades in their vocational qualifications
- A further 27 students gained 2 Distinction* grades
This year we sent 115 students to British universities, 4 to American universities and 4 to Art Colleges. 14% of students will be attending a Russell Group University and 32% have a place at a ‘prestigious’ university.
The remaining students applied (or are applying) for apprenticeships and jobs. A number of students have already secured apprenticeships to employers including Rothschild, Mazars, Pfizer, DCL Insurance, Lloyds, Merton Council, London Borough of Sutton and Marsden Hospital in Chelsea.
We are very proud of all the students’ achievements and wish all students the best of luck in their next steps.
For September 2019 entry, our new prospectus will be available on the website very soon and our 16+ Evening will take place on Thursday 17th January 2019.
