Year 12 MAGT Trip: The British Academy Summer Showcase

On Friday 21st June Miss James and Miss Watson took a group of Year 12 More Able and Gifted students on a trip to The British Academy in London.

The Summer Showcase is a free two-day festival of ideas for curious minds. The British Academy opened their beautiful building with 15 interactive exhibits alongside pop-up talks, workshops and performances, bringing the best new humanities and social sciences research to life. Dan Snow, the famous historian, writer and TV presenter, was the curator of the event and was presenting the pop-up talks in the garden of the building.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were encouraged to have active curious minds. In a number of the pop-up talks our students asked probing questions of the presenters with a number of teachers from other schools praising our students for their mature questioning.

This is the first time we have run a trip to the summer showcase and both Miss James and Miss Watson were exceptionally impressed with the day. Miss James was even asked to be filmed for a promotional video for the event – she thoroughly enjoyed her five minutes of fame!
