Parents/Carers update 12th February

12 February 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please see below for half-term updates and information from Cheam High:

THANK YOU AND WELL DONE

First and foremost, well done!  As parents/carers you have all made it through another half-term of home learning.  We thank you all for your superb efforts in helping your child engage with our remote learning provision.

Rest assured, many teaching staff are also juggling home learning for their own children with their professional commitments and we continue to appreciate the challenges that current circumstances pose.

The fact that the engagement levels of our students have been so high is, in no small part, testament to your efforts and to the spirit of collaboration between school and families.

REMOTE LEARNING AND TAKING A BREAK

We hope that you, and your children, can enjoy a well-earned rest over the half-term week during which no work will be set.

Work that has been set on Show My Homework sometimes has deadlines that stretch into the half term week or beyond.  Please make sure that students take a proper rest from their remote learning and we do not expect any students to be completing work over the half term break (although some may wish to, of course!).  We recommend that wherever possible students take a real break from screen time and hope that some warmer weather may assist with this!

THE NEAR FUTURE, HELP AND SUPPORT

We remain unsure as to what the near future will hold as regards schooling.  The government are due to announce any changes to current educational provision on Feb 22nd and we will, of course, update you with our plans accordingly.

In the meantime, Young Minds have put together a ‘helpfinder’ for parents/carers where you answer six multiple choice questions before being directed to appropriate guidance and support.  You can find this by clicking here.

You can also find helpful tips for managing eye, mind and body health when spending so much time on screen by clicking here

Sutton youth support and counselling service Off the Record, are also offering workshops, Q&A sessions and competitions for young people to take part in over the half term week.  You can find out more about these by clicking here.

We wish you all a restful week and look forward to seeing our students back online on February 22nd.

Yours faithfully,

P Naudi
