When Cheam Was Green!
The school is working hard to improve bio-diversity, with lots of exciting projects underway.
You may be interested to know that Cheam has a real history of being green, as these wonderful photographs show. During the war years, a large proportion of the playing field was turned over to allotments as part of the ‘Dig for Victory’ campaign. At this time the schools were still separate with the existing E Block forming the girls’ school and what is now the M Block being the boys’ school.
Allotments were installed on the site of what is now the Sports Hall/D Block, looking towards Tilehurst Road.
We are always pleased to hear from past students. Please contact Mrs Elliott: email@example.com, with your memories of the school - particularly if you remember trying your hand at growing vegetables!
