World Book Day
Thursday 3rd March was World Book Day. The theme this year was ‘You are a reader’ and as a school we celebrated the joy of reading in several ways:
Staff displayed posters and talked about a book they recently enjoyed.
Tutors shared one of their favourite reads with their tutor groups.
Some staff from other departments joined the English department and dressed up as characters from books which students really enjoyed. Particular thanks to the staff from Science and the office for their efforts.
Our whole school ‘Big Read’ initiative continued and took place on Wednesday. Each year group had an assembly setting them a reading challenge.
Specific English lessons, to celebrate World Book Day, were created and enjoyed by both KS3 and KS4 students.
Year 7, 8 and 9 took part in an inter-tutor competition to decorate their tutor doors as book covers. Mrs McKone was incredibly impressed with all the effort that went into this and it was really difficult to choose the winners.
