Silver DofE Practice Expedition
Posted: 20/04/26

Blue skies and sunshine accompanied the Year 10s across the New Forest at the weekend (17th-19th April), making for some truly pleasant walking conditions. As the night fell, those clear skies revealed stunning views of the stars, though they brought with them a noticeably chilly night.
Students camped on both Friday and Saturday nights, striking tents each morning before moving on. Friday saw the teams cover 12.3km, gaining 134m ascent walking in a clockwise loop around Brockenhurst, before pitching tents in the evening and completing their cooking routines for dinner and breakfast.
On Saturday, teams set off, heading in a westerly direction, completing a further 16.7 km and 157m ascent to Holmsley Campsite and completing their cooking routines, before returning on Sunday, completing a further 13.7km to Brockenhurst.
The Teams built on their experience from their Bronze last year and the drop-down day, to help them successfully prepare for their expedition. Well done to all of those students who took part, who looked after themselves and each other throughout. The attitude and discipline on display from start to finish was commended by their instructors, and we are incredibly proud of them.
Well done Teams!
